The Andenne Museum, in collaboration with the Walloon Heritage Agency, presents an exhibition dedicated to a unique artefact: a glazed ceramic washbasin dating from the late 12th to early 13th century, discovered in Andenne.

Rare and fascinating, this exceptional piece, recognised as a heritage treasure of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, bears witness both to the craftsmanship of medieval potters and to the richness of the town’s cultural heritage.

The object was discovered in 1990 during excavations carried out on the Place du Chapitre in Andenne, in the crypt of the former collegiate church of Sainte-Marie-Majeure. No comparable piece has been identified to date, making it a truly unique artefact. Produced locally from clay quarried in the region, it bears witness to the high technical standard of Andenne’s pottery workshops in the Middle Ages.
