In collaboration with the Princessehof Ceramics Museum, Crafts Council Netherlands is organising a one-day masterclass on the kurinuki technique and making glazes from waste materials. The masterclass includes a visit to the exhibition ‘Sustainable Ceramics #2: Investigating a Footprint’, a collaboration between the Princessehof and the research and design studio Lab AIR.
In this masterclass, Benedetta Pompili will teach you how to create a ceramic object from a lump of recycled clay using the Japanese kurinuki technique. She will then demonstrate how to make a set of glazes from waste materials to apply to your creations.
Benedetta Pompili is an experienced Italian ceramicist and materials researcher based in the Netherlands. Her practice focuses on exploring traditional techniques and materials from the perspective of sustainability. She is the founder of Vuur Collective, where she shares her research and knowledge. She is a mentor at the Design Academy Eindhoven and works at the ceramics studio and department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam.
