Guided tour with Head Curator Jana Göbel through the special exhibition “The New Dramaturgy of Eating: Design Beyond the Plate” (Focus: “Pattern Aunts”)

This time, the guided tour invites you to discover the fascinating world of the “Mustertanten” (Pattern Aunts). Inspired by historical kitchenware and textiles, nine students from the Class of 2025 at the Selb State Vocational School for Product Design have reinterpreted forgotten shapes, patterns, and colors, bringing them into the present day. Drawing on time-honored elements, they have created surprising decorative motifs and extraordinary surface designs that demonstrate just how vibrant tradition can be.
In addition to the four works featured in the exhibition, four other “Mustertanten” designs—previously unseen—will also be presented. The tour concludes with an inspiring look beyond the immediate scope of the project: five projects from the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences showcase further creative approaches to how design engages with materials, history, and the future.
